Wylands International AC, Battle, East Sussex
Over the last month we have seen some great captures including the first Catfish of the year going to season ticket holder Gary Robinson. With the daffodils out and the grass starting to grow. The Summer is really on its way and the fish haven't been disappointing. Young Joshua Hayler had an amazing session on Kell, bagging three fish including Warty. Fishing on the dam wall he netted The Plate, an 11lb common and Warty who went 33lb 14oz - well done Josh! Mick Murray fished the lake on several occasions and put a lot of hard work in to baiting and finding some cracking little spots. His efforts were rewarded with fish up to 26lb 12oz but his hunt for Warty continues….. David Harland restarted his Kell campaign and, after a few blank sessions, he took two nice fish to 21lb.
MIDDLE LAKE:
It is still producing the goods. Tyler Betts caught his very first Carp of 5lb 2oz, putting his Dad to shame once again. The young angler did well to land two carp and several good quality Roach and skimmers from the first swim by the reeds. Another youngster that did well was Eric ‘mini-carpster’ Collins. The Alchemy Baits and Castaway PVA sponsored angler fished his first night session in his own bivvy and caught plenty of fish up to 15lb 4oz. Well done Eric! Oli Sherwood had a blank session on Kell but moved up to Middle lake to finish off his trip. He netted a 22lber and then a 25lber from close in on the margins—what a way to save a blank!!
NEW SPECI:
It has been fishing well, with some great sessions been had. A lot of the fish have been coming off of the area where the lilies have died back but Adrian Hogan did well on the dam wall end to net three fish to 60lb. His first was a lovely 24lber and his day got even better with two more cracking fish. Neil Streek landed an 18lber by fishing the margins at the top end of the lake and Ray Grant managed a 20lber off the point of the island at the other end. Mainline Hybrid and Nash Tangerine Dream seem to be the best baits at the moment but some good fun can be had on the method feeder.
OLD SPECI:
I has had a few off days but is generally fishing ok. Tim Ender had such a good session on Nash’s new bait The Key that he had to reel his rods in to get some sleep! Fishing the margins on the first swim, Tim was rather bleary eyed in the morning. John Dugdale fished for a few days from the first swim and netted 29 fish to just over 21lb on Sticky Baits. The method is still proving a deadly technique on the lake and has accounted for several large hauls.
HOUSE LAKE:
Has been fishing okay but it has been affected by the cold wind. Jodi and Allan Plant had a good session by the bridge with both netting fish between 11 and 12lb. Steve ‘Barrel’ Richardson also fished the same area and banked a 24lb 10oz Common - well done Steve! Top baits include Mainline Hybrid, sweetcorn and Urban Baits’ Nutcracker.
KELL:
Has been producing some cracking fish as always. Warty put in an appearance four times, twice to our own Paul Cook who has seen some stunning captures for all the efforts he has put in. He tempted his using his homemade boilies and had him at 32lb 10oz and then at 34lb. He also had ‘Graham’ at 24lb 2oz, a stunning Common with huge shoulders. After moving from the New Speci, Paul Birrell managed to tempt Warty at 35lb 8oz along with three other fish, not bad for only his second session on the lake. David Harland caught five fish to 23lb and for the first time in a while he didn't catch Warty.
FIELD LAKE:
Has been fishing well off the top. Whilst it is still cold the action hasn't been as hot as you get in the Summer but young Barney Davies had twelve fish on bread in a short afternoon session. Sweetcorn and maggots are working well under the waggler. Although MAISIES was slower in March, the first Catfish of the year came out to Gary Robinson. A wafting boilie Gary’s bait of choice for the carp and he was more than a little surprised and delighted when he hooked in to a 45lb 8oz moggy! Unfortunately the fish doesn't count in this years Catfish competition. If you catch the biggest between 1st April and 30th September you will win a years season ticket at Wylands. For more information please see a member of staff. Pete Lee caught a stunning 18lb common from the far margin close to the reeds on Nash’s Amber Strawberry. Last years winner Pete will be looking to regain his title and beat his 52lb catch from last year. With the weather warming up there is more colour to the water in SNAKE and the weights have been creeping up. With the clocks having gone forward we are now finishing our Sunday Open matches at 4pm, with a 9.45am start. Our ‘Dougie Pegg Memorial Match’ saw 20 anglers fish the event and we raised a huge amount of money to help the family at their difficult time. Many thanks to all those who entered, I know the family appreciated all the support they received from Dougie’s old competitors
