Some of the fish caught on the day
Facilities 1/5
There's not much here I'm afraid. There's one porta-loo which even my mate refused to use and he will go anywhere normally! There's no shop or shops local, no cafe nothing. So don't forget anything because you ain't gonna be able to eat here.
Fish stocks 5/5
Fish soup! I fished the main lake that has 45 pegs, an aerator in the middle and not many features really but if you don't catch a fish here.. pack up..go home and burn your fishing gear! This place is wall to wall with Carp, so wall to wall is this place for every Carp I was netting there was another one that had swum in my net. Yes, that many! At one point there must of been 40 Carp at my feet. I would say 95% of the Carp are from 4-10lb and apparently there has been 30's stocked in here but you need to get past the small ones to get any upper dbls.
My advice is to definitely take a smaller net. Trying to net the amount of Carp we were catching with a 42" net is not practical.
For people who are new to fishing this is an ideal place to get used to handling Carp on a rod especially for match fisherman. This is a mecca for honing your competition fishing. In a little under 4 hours we had at least 200lbs of Carp in the net and I'm on the understanding the lake record is about 800lb of fish in a day's session.
Prepare for your arms to ache the next day!
Quality of fishing 3/5
I've given it a 3 for the type of lake that it is. This is not an over night fishery, I have no idea why someone would stay over night to be honest, there's no need.
So as a day fishery for fishing only the day it's a fair score. Yes, there's no facilities but the fishing more than makes up for that and the amount of fish there is in this lake, you've not got a chance to take a wizz let alone have something to eat.
Pricing 5/5
Day Tickets:
£10 Summer 6am - 7.30pm
£9 Winter 6.30am - 6pm
Amazing really, you could charge dbl that and not one person would complain about the amount of fish they would catch, perhaps they are doing some work to it and then they would put the prices up, even if they did I'd pay it.
Staff 5/5
Informative, very friendly and very likable. No complaints whatsoever.
Disabled 5/5
The way the lakes are set out makes it a paradise for disabled fishing. There are no swims per-say with decked out areas but every swim is clearly marked. The ground is mostly level and I couldn't see that any of the swims are non-accessible to disabled anglers on the lake.
Rules 5/5
As there is no website for Aaron's Lake I went around a few forums and there were a few people that were moaning about the rules and how strict they were. CODSWOLLOP!
There is nothing wrong with the rules, it states no surface fishing...this is to protect the wildlife from picking up your bait. Why you would want to float a bait anyways it's wall to wall on the bottom.
No cat food. Really? Who's using cat food? Get a grip people, it shouldn't be a rule it should be common sense.
And barbless hooks only....this has always been a argument, barbless or barbed. I've not got a problem with the rule at all. That's about it. Nothing strict at all. The rest of the rules are pretty standard.
Overall 4/5
For what this lake is and offers it's a great little lake. This will be a fantastic lake to get ya kids into fishing as they will definitely catch. It's also a good starting point to teach them how to match fish properly. Again, if you're a budding match fisherman trying to get into competition fishing and earn some money I can't see a better place than this to hone your skills.
I just had a method feeder on and silly amounts of fish.
