Impy Inc Aquarium Cleaning & Maintenance

As you can see on your left hand side there are lots & lots of pages concerning fish and fishing.
Someone one said I was on a one-man crusade to help with all things fish but it's just something I enjoy doing and if I can help people along the way then that's a bonus.

It came to my attention whilst working within the industry that more and more people want beautiful looking fish and tanks but don't want to do or can't do the up keep, whether it's having a very hectic lifestyle or because they just don't have the knowledge for one reason or another.

Me offering this service will give both and as time goes on you'll be able to do all the below yourself with tuition.

My motivation is to teach good practice with fish husbandry as well as helping you get the very best out of your home aquarium.

Water Testing and Changing

Picture
Water testing and water changes to your tank on a regular basis is very important.
Different chemical parameters will determine the percentage water change required depending on the circumstances of your tank.
High Ammonia & Nitrites which are poisonous to fish are caused by a number of factors including over feeding, non-regular water changes, overstocked tanks, degrading plants and non-chlorinating of water.

Algae Cleaning

Picture
Algae is also something that is caused by a number of factors.

Overfeeding is the most common source of the algal nutrients ammonia and phosphate. Algae thrive on both uneaten food and fish waste from what's consumed.

Its also caused by direct sunlight, so if your tank is by a window this can cause algae growth.

Algae to some fish is great! Most fish will eat a little bit of algae here and there but ultimately it's stubborn and makes your tank look green.

Gravel & Ornament Cleaning

Picture
Water changes will help your tank but lurking beneath your gravel is all sorts of nasties like excess food, fish protein (waste) and parts of plants.

All this breaks down and causes Ammonia that can effect your water parameters.

I will clean your gravel and also advise you on how to stop unwanted nasties getting trapped within your gravel.

Ornaments do get grubby over time and the only way to clean them really is to sit there and scrub it off. Ornament cleaners do a decent job but they are not as effective as a real good scrub.

If there is a lot of ornaments, you may want to put the kettle on at this point.

    Fish Compatibility

Picture
This is probably one of the hardest things to distinguish.
What species go with what species?
We all see fish as beautiful but there are a few fish that are a little bit naughty and should only be kept with certain species.
I will explain any questions you have concerning this and put your mind at rest.
If you do have an aggressive fish, please let me know and I will try my very best to find them a new home.

Filters & Maintenance

Picture
Filters are incredibly important, this is actually the life line of your fish.
I will clean all your filters thoroughly and will advise you if you need any replacements and point you in the right direction.

Not only do filters help clean your tank but they also contain little tiny good bacteria on their sponges.
As Ammonia levels rise, another good bacteria grows that converts Ammonia to Nitrite.
Although Nitrite is not as toxic as Ammonia, it is still harmful to fish. As Nitrite levels rise, another good bacteria grows that converts Nitrite to Nitrate.

This process is called aquarium cycling or the aquarium nitrogen cycle.

So very, very important but there are loads and loads of filters on the market. If you need help please let me know.

Tank Set Ups

Picture
When you look at some tanks they all look lovely but it is quite a bit of work. The average tank should be running for at least three days to allow for the cycle (see above) to complete but not all tanks take three days, some can take weeks.
I will set up your tank, make sure everything is running properly, filters are at optimum and tell you when you should put fish in.
If you require me to design you a tank this is not a problem and I will consult with you.

It's completely up to you if you get the bits yourself or you want me to get them for you. The Frozen tank above cost about £100 to complete (ornaments and placing, the aquarium itself is not included) and the planted tank below cost about £60 to set up but I will tell you the easiest and most financial viable way to set up and keep the tank.
Tank arrangement and design depends on the size and what you require in the aquarium itself.
